Colvin and Baker and the Siwalik Fossils

Friends of Ludlow Museum

Monday 16 September at 7:00 for 7:30pm

Ludlow Library

Speakers: Daniel Lockett and Jackie Tweddle

The 19th Century saw an explosion of interest in geology and the natural world. This included the important discovery of animal fossils from the Siwalik Hills of northern India. Although this is still an area being researched, we take a look at the collectors who made those first finds, including local men William Baker and John Colvin. We’ll also take a look at some of the collections they amassed and brought back to museums in the UK during the 1840s, including our own here at Ludlow.

Tickets £5 (members £2) at the door)
