and other discoveries at Attingham Park

Speaker: Dr Nigel Baker

Attingham Park with half a million visitors each year, is one of the National Trust's most popular properties. But that does not mean that there is nothing left to discover of its past. In the last decade the underwater remains of a lost medieval bridge have been found and surveyed, the Georgian parkland has proved to be but a thin veneer over a rich medieval agricultural landscape, and in 2018 excavation uncovered the footings of an elaborate Georgian summerhouse whose existence had been completely unknown.

Dr Nigel Baker is a Shropshire-based freelance archaeologist who has worked on the historic towns of the region over many years, has recently published books on Bristol and on the historic houses of Hereford, and this year has been excavating at Shrewsbury Castle.

Tickets £5 (members £2) at the door)
