Late Medieval Woodwork in St Laurence's Church

Ludlow Lectures

Tuesday 12 November at 10:00am

St Laurence, Ludlow

Speaker: Peter White

The Middle Ages, and especially the fifteenth century, produced in vast quantities of ‘the most wonderful woodwork the world has ever seen’.

Although much of it was destroyed over the Reformation period, enough has survived to illustrate the skills of the craftsmen who created it, and St Laurence's collection rivals any in England. Peter White will review what we have and attempt where possible to place it in its historical context.

Peter read History and Theology at Cambridge, and taught at Wellington College. His connection with St Laurence's goes back to 1970, and since becoming a church guide some years ago he has pursued an increasing interest in medieval religious art.
