Constantine Alexander Ionides, was a member of a Greek family who founded an exporting and financial business in Britain in the 19th Century. He was a friend of many contemporary artists and amassed an enormous collection of 1138 paintings, drawings and prints which he left to the V&A in 1901. His collection encompassed many periods but 19th Century French art was his especial interest.
