Wider implications of the Staffordshire Hoard (including the Dinham Pommel)

The Staffordshire Hoard, discovered near Lichfield in 2009, comprises more than 3,500 gold, silver and jewelled objects of a military nature. They were deposited on the site in the middle of the 7th Century although many of them were already then of historic significance.

The sheer size of the hoard and the variety of possible origins of the individual pieces gives rise to a major task of detailed description and comparison with objects similar natures and origins elsewhere; not least the Dinham Pommel discovered at Culmington in 2002.

Leslie Webster is the co-author of a forthcoming work on the finds from the Staffordshire Hoard.

Tickets at the door. Members: £2.00; Non-members: £5.00.
